Reasons behind, medicines taking before or after food.

While doctors prescribing medicines, the directions may vary for each medicine, that includes , before or after food and morning or afternoon or night time, these are created after carefully monitored clinical studies, bcz our allopathy medicines have created some tragedies, for example: Thalidomide, a medicine was prescribed popularly in late 1950s for morning sickness to pregnant ladies resulted sadly in 10000 physically challanged babies in Europe and USA.

Ok, coming to the point, there are some basic acceptable points on the directions of medicines, such as for example flucloxacillin (Penicillin), an antibiotic prescribed for bacterial infections should be taken before food (before 2 hours), bcz the antibiotic reach the blood stream only when the stomach is empty or if the stomach is filled with food, the drug won't reach the blood stream and will not give the desired action. Other examples: penicillin V, levothyroxine, rifampicin, oxytetracycline.

Some medicines ex: Aspirin taken as a pain killer, may irritate the stomach if taken in empty stomach, so it is recommended to take after meal. other examples: allopurinol (for gout, a bone disease), NSAIDS (diclofenac, Ibuprofen etc.. for inflammation generally taken to cure swelling or pain).

and finally, morning medicines such as diuretics example: bendroflumetiazide may increase the frequency of urination, so if u take this drug in the night time this may disturb your sleep, and night time medicine example: temazepam may create drowsiness, if u take this drug in the morning time, this may disturb the day time work by making you drowsy (sleepy..)
