Azithromycin, the first over the counter antibiotic to treat chlamydia

As per the news released by NPA (National Pharmacy Association) of UK, Azithromycin is going to be the first over the counter antibiotic in UK.

On consideration of the seriousness of chlamydia, this event comes in to effect, chlamydia is a most common sexually transmitted disease in UK (www.patient.co.uk).

this POM(prescription only medicine) to P(pharmacy) of Azithromycin will be first effective in Wales, UK. The pharmacies are also alerted to screen and treat the patients. the important criteria about chlamydia is that there is no symptoms, but in rare cases the symptoms are vaginal discharge, bleeding after sex, burning sensation or pain while passing urine, pain in the abdomen etc.

chlamydia can pass from mother to child while birth, if the mother is infected, and can transfer between sexual partners. Azithromycin is a recommended antibiotic for chlamydial infection. this can also be taken as phrophylactic treatment.

dosage: Azithromycin 1 gram single dose orally, 1 hour before food.
doxycyclin 200mg twicy daily for seven days.

it is recommended to complete the course even the infection is getting down. Infertility is the serious eventual condition of chlamydia if left untreated..chlamydia is common in men and women.
